Wizards Look To Keep Pace Tonight Against Best Team In East

Posted on March 28, 2014 by Carlton Holliday Jr.

The Washington Wizards look to keep pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Currently, the team is having a rough stretch going 1-4 over the last five games and 4-6 over the last ten. Desperately hanging on to the sixth seed, the Wizards must find a way to get some victories in this final stretch of the season.

Starting with tonight's game at home against the Pacers.  The Indiana Pacers have also been  struggling quite a bit down the stretch as of late. It's been more like March Sadness for both squads.  Since March 1st the Pacers have gone 8-7. The Wizards have gone just 6-7 since that same date.

Both teams have cooled off a lot. The Wizards started out the post All-Star break stretch going a 8-3. Since that hot start, the Wiz have suffered a few disappointing losses while on a west coast trip where they won jut one game and piled up three heartbreaking losses.

The Pacers have put on a stellar season thus far. They've also added pieces like Evan Turner and Andrew Bynum to the mix right during the trade deadline. Still trying to work out the kinks and tighten up their rotation the Pacers have suffered some iffy defeats as well.

This game tonight would be a major win for the Wizards.  It would be a signature victory with just ten games remaining.

The Wizards look to build some much needed momentum heading into the playoffs. With a win the Wizards would stay above a .500 winning percentage. Finally, a win would ensure that the Good guys would  at least hold on to the sixth seed of the Eastern Conference playoff standings.

There's actually quite a bit on the line for the Wiz as they look to turn things around and bounce back from some difficult losses suffered over the past two weeks.

So far this season,  the Pacers have dominated the series against Wizards winning both games easily by at  least  twenty points. The Wizards look to prove that they can contend with the top dog of the Eastern Conference. A win against a true title contender would build some much needed momentum heading into the playoffs.

Kudos to the Pacers. They've led the Eastern Conference from the very start of the season. Even with Miami creeping behind them in the standings, the Pacers look to have the Eastern Conference locked up with a three game lead over the Heat with just ten games remaining in the season.

The Wizards must bounce back. Although the Wiz has been struggling as of late it appears that they will at least clinch a playoff berth this season.

The only deciding factors in how far the Wiz can go in the post season is seeding and matchup.  The Wizards have played very well against the Bulls and Nets this season.  However, they've lost the season series against the Raptors 1-3. Clearly who you draw makes all the difference in the world.  With a chance to still get home court advantage in the first round the Wiz will need to pile up a fee more wins and not dip below a .500 winning percentage.

The stage is set and both teams have a lot to fight for, which makes this game a must win.

The players to watch tonight are Centers, Marcin Gortat and Roy. Hibbert. Both big men are low post threats and defensive stoppers for their respective teams. Gortat will need to have a huge impact in order for the Wizards to pull out a win.

The Polish Hammer has been a silent assassin. He's put together a great season averaging 13 points, nine boards and a block per game. It'll be a great matchup between the two Centers because Hibbert is one of the best in the business on the defensive end.
